You’re not mining rocks. You’re hunting density. And density lives low.

Strip Mining Wins Every Time
I dig strip mines because they work.
Every time.
Strip mining means digging a long main tunnel at Y-level 11 or 12, then carving short side branches off it. That’s it. No guessing.
No luck-based tunnels. Just geometry.
You space those branches 2. 3 blocks apart. Too close and you waste time digging air. Too far and you miss diamonds hiding in the gaps.
I bring torches. Always. A water bucket too (lava) pops up fast at that depth.
And at least two pickaxes. Iron is fine. Diamond lasts longer (but don’t sweat it if you’re still on iron).
Clear your main tunnel first. Widen it to 3 blocks tall and 2 wide. Make sure it’s lit.
Make sure it’s safe. Then start branching.
This isn’t flashy. It’s not “creative.”
It’s boring, repeatable, and it gets diamonds faster than any other method.
You’ve seen people dig spiral holes or mine straight down. They die. Or get lost.
Or find nothing.
Strip mining cuts through all that noise. You see every block in a 3×3×3 cube around each branch. Diamonds spawn in predictable chunks.

Unbreaking III? Non-negotiable. I’ve seen pickaxes die mid-tunnel.

You need a sword. And a shield. Zombies don’t ask questions.
Neither do skeletons.
Bring a crafting table. A furnace too. Smelt iron on the spot.
Repair gear without sprinting back to base. It saves hours.
Food? Pack stacks. Not just for hunger (when) your health dips, you panic.
And panicked digging gets you killed.
